David is safely out of the jungle but his legacy of support for beneficiary charity Malaria No More UK lives on. Through being in the show, David and his fellow celebrities helped raise vital funds and awareness to fight malaria, one of the world’s most devastating, yet entirely preventable diseases.

15p from every phone vote was donated to Malaria No More UK’s work to save lives, this includes helping to test for and treat the disease in children who are disproportionately affected – A child dies from malaria every single minute, that’s the equivalent of three UK primary schools being wiped out every day. Every life lost is needless as malaria is easy to prevent and cure. It costs less than a cup of tea to provide lifesaving treatment to a child.

15p won’t buy much in the UK but a little goes a long way in the malaria fight. 60p, the equivalent of four votes, is enough to buy a malaria test to help a sick child. It costs less than £1, the equivalent of seven votes to provide essential treatment to a child suffering with malaria. Today, Malaria No More UK is supporting Namibia’s goal to eliminate malaria by 2020 and also helping to test and treat children in Nigeria – a country where malaria has a devastating impact, claiming the lives of 500 children every day.

David says:  “Many years ago I went on a safari to Kenya and was armed with the knowledge to know what to do.  I slept under a mosquito net and took my malaria pills. Knowledge is key, the correct information can save your life.  Last year I conquered prostate cancer and together we can conquer malaria too”.

Just after David came out of the jungle there was encouraging news from the World Health Organisation: child death rates from malaria have now been halved since 2000 with three million young lives saved.
